RUG CARE GUIDE
Keep Your Rug Looking Fresh
When you find that perfect rug, you want it to look and feel great for years to come. The secret? A little care goes a long way. Proper maintenance keeps your rug vibrant, soft, and ready for everything life throws its way — from daily foot traffic to the occasional spill.
This guide covers simple routines for everyday cleaning, preventative care, and exactly what to do when spills happen.
Care & Maintenance
Rotate Regularly
Give your rug a quarter turn every few months. Rotating balances everyday wear and sunlight exposure, so one area doesn’t fade or flatten faster than the rest. It’s the easiest way to extend your rug’s life.
Vacuum Often
Dust and grit settle deep in the pile, so consistent vacuuming is key. For most homes, vacuum twice a week (more in high-traffic areas). Move slowly and make several passes over each section.
- Empty/replace the bag or bin when it’s about half full to keep suction strong.
- Suction-only canister vacuums are gentlest for most rugs and help prevent fuzzing or pilling.
- For cut-pile wool, a dual-motor vacuum with brush rolls can be effective.
- For loop-pile wool, use suction-only to avoid pulls/snags.
Want to level up? Look for vacuums certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label program.
Professional Cleaning
Even with great at-home care, your rug benefits from an occasional deep clean. When it’s time, choose a professional rug cleaner who understands fiber types and construction.
Skip stain-repellent treatments that contain silicone — they can cause buildup and attract soil faster.
Handle Spills Quickly
Accidents happen — the key is speed. Blot (don’t rub) immediately with a clean, dry cloth to lift as much as possible. The longer a spill sits, the harder it is to remove.

In short: rotate it, vacuum it, and treat spills fast. With a simple routine, your Ruglabb rug will look great and last longer.
